Memory Book Club Sign-up

5th and 6th graders create the annual yearbook in The Skokie School Memory Book Club. As a club, the participants create the overall design, take and collect photographs, create layouts, promote contests, and distribute the annual yearbook to their classmates. This club is supported by a Skokie School teacher but is largely a reflection of the creative efforts and interests of Skokie students. It runs from October to March before school on Mondays.

Chess Enrichment Program

“Chess is the Sport of the Mind!” Chess-Ed will continue to provide this unique, exciting, and dynamic chess instruction which lifts each student to a new level of expertise. Studies confirm that the student who plays chess does better academically and throughout life in general. Chess increases IQ performance, uses analytical and critical thinking skills, teaches problem solving, responsibility, decision making, good sportsmanship, social skills and more. Classes beginning Monday 10/10 through 12/12/2024, 7:45-8:15am weekly.

Dungeons and Dragons Club

This club is back by popular demand for a second year. Dungeons and Dragons is a fantasy role-playing game where students will design a character and work cooperatively to complete missions and questions using both strategy and creativity. All levels of knowledge about the game (including beginners) are welcome. Dungeons and Dragons club takes place every third Thursday of the month after school until 4:45pm, and it is a great way to meet new people with similar interests. Please sign up in the District Web Store and reach out to Katie Nelson at katienelson@winnetka36.org with any questions.

Homework Club

Homework Club has begun after school in the Washburne Resource Center from 3:30-5:00pm. Homework Club will be available all year on Tuesdays, Wednesdays (new this year!), and Thursdays. It's a great opportunity to get things done while still at school. Drop in to finish some homework or get some help from a teacher. All are welcome and no sign-up is required. Stay until 5:00 or leave when finished.

Washburne Debate

Debate meets after school on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30 in Ms. Etter's room (N106). This is a great opportunity for students to hone their research skills, become more polished public speakers, and challenge themselves outside of the classroom. Students can compete in after-school tournaments with other New Trier feeder schools a few times throughout the year. Our first meeting will be Tuesday, October 8th.

Dance Marathon Student Steering Committee

Students are a vital part of planning, promoting, and executing our annual dance marathon, benefiting Lurie Children's Hospital. To date, we have raised over $200,000 for a place that has touched so many lives of those who live in Winnetka. Our student steering committee will meet on Thursdays at 8:00AM, monthly at first, then bimonthy, then weekly closer to the event, which will take place in the early spring. Sign up your child to be a part of this committee using the link below, which will be open until October 23rd, the day before our first meeting.

Register for DM Student Steering Committee here

Whether your child is outgoing or wants to work behind the scenes, there is something for everyone to do. We need talents of all types. Every year it is a joy to work with students on such an important (and fun!) service project.

We can't wait to get started!

- Tracy Silverman, Melissa Yeoman, Rachel Hirsh, and DeAnna SeLander
